STOWAWAYS IN COURT
ONE WILL BE DEPORTED (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, Today. The two stowaways on the Karelu, who were arrested at Lyttelton, appeared in the Christchurch Court yesterday. Eric Nelson, a Swedish seaman, was charged with stowing ; away and that, being a prohibited immigrant, he had unlawfully landed in i New Zealand. Frederick Kane, said to be a native of New Zealand, was al*o i charged with stowing away. Both men | pleaded guilty. As the owners of the ship had en- ! tered into a bond that he would leave the country, Nelson was convicted an ! discharged on the charge of stowing away. On the other charge he was sentenced to one month’s imprison ment and ordered to be deports within that time. Kane was fined 10s, the amount of the steamer farfrom Sydney, with the alternative ci 14 days’ imprisonment.
