A GOOD AVERAGE

THE excellent acceptances received for the Wai kato trotting fixture on Saturday is a further tribute to the capable and efficient manner in which the club's handicapper, Mr. C. E. £? 0 !~IT‘ an ’ carries out his duties. Of 132 horses handicapped, 107 have stood their ground, giving a very high and gratifying percentage of acceptors. After viewing the racing at Claudelands Mr. Gooseman will frame the adjustments for the Wbangarei fixture, which comes up for decision on October 19, the acceptances for which close on Tuesday next at 5 p.m. either with secretary Thomson, Whangarei, or Blomfield and Co., Auckland. journey. Warplane must be given a. rare chance, and he will be coupled with Carmel, which strengthens backers’ chances. Goldman is sure to be in the limelight, and Dillon Muon should account for Oakhampton and sev. ral of the others. Finalised it points to Mountain Dell, Lindbergh, Warplane-Carmel bracket and Goldman carrying the bulk of the investments. Hamilton Handicap Ten trotters of renown will parade for this heat, and the front lot are sure to be dangerous, Kolmar in particular attracting attention. If ready Gold Star would be a nuisance, while just behind these three comes Lackiewood, who is always a possibility. Akenehi only wants to reproduce her best form to make some of the others cal lfor “Aspros,” and Anseline goes well on this track. Etta Cole should account for the remainder, and most support may be found for Etta Cole, Akenehi and Lackiewood. Claudelands Handicap Promising two-mile* pacers are ready to try their ability in this event, and there is some splendid material engaged. It is quite on the cards that in this field is concealed future country cup winners. The front lot appears to be overshadowed, by those immediately behind them, and in Enawah, Polly’s Picture and Our Nancy there are three candidates possessing rosy chances. Arachne is a useful sort and Explosion only requires to go evenly all the way to make it difficult for the others. Limosa must be considered on the light of her run at Epsom, and lit and well Mai Chimes would keep all hands busy. Most support may be found for Enawah, Limosa, Polly’s Picture and Arachne. Stewards’ Handicap The mile dash—the other leg—has drawn a big field, and with Gold Cast, Nella Dillon, Warspite and Hohoro off the front the limit brigade lias a reasonable chance of getting a portion of the prize. They can begin well and this is a real asset in such a race. Pearl Logan is handily placed, while the 24yds mark contains some “hot stuff.” Mountain Dell may earn a penalty and decide to look on, but if Vendome, Brutus and Concertina can head off Great Peter they will have' improved a great deal. Joy Bird races well when fresh and will be going nicely when many have cried enough, and Tony Victor is in good form. In an open pool Great Peter, Gold Cast, Nella Dillon and Warspite may do best. President’s Handicap This is the unhoppled event, and trotters hold the big majority, but a couple of pacers engaged are capable of keeping the square-gaiters busy. Peterson, Kolmar, Gold Star, Lackiewood, Anseline, Akenehi, Etta Cole and Floraline represent the best of the trotters, while in the freelegged pacing section Conder Belle, Bell Dial and Master Muia will endeavour to keep up their end. Bell Dial, Conder Belle, Peterson and Kolmar will receive solid support. Visitors* Handicap There is a big field engaged in the final heat of the day, and it should provide a great contest. Nel de Beau, Nathaniel, Vanity Boy and Great Parrish figure on the end, and they can present a bold front. Te Wahia, Haerenga Pai and Belle Axwortliy read well on the next peg, and if ready the latter would lead the opposition a merry dance. Further back, Arachne, Hohoro, Dawdler and Our Nancy look to have fine prospects, but at the finish it may be found the elect will be Arachne, Belle Ax worthy, Hohoro and Great Parrish. Becky Logan’s End When being taken to the Christchurch railway station to be entrained to Methven on Saturday the five-year-old mare Becky Logan slipped on the railway line and broke her hip. She was subsequently destroyed. Doubtful Cup Starter Jack Potts may not be a starter in the New Zealand Trotting Cup, for he has a big knee that is causing trouble, and his trainer will find it difficult to give him a solid preparation.
