TROTTING

EPSOM TRIALS Yesterday's Track Essays gold jacket goes well Although the Epsom track was in good order again yesterday morning, conditions for training operations were not too pleasant, a strong biting wind which caused ■the dust to fly being in evidence. G. Shaw was again the ea.rly bird, and he dispatched Warplane and Native Prince from the 12-furlong post. With half a mile traversed. Florent inined in and at the mile post Native Prince was eased up. Warming up to his work, Warplane dashed over the final few furlongs at a good clip, finishing up a useful task in approved style. * * * Arachne, moving with fine freedom, was not asked for her best over a couple of circuits. The mare is in nice order for forthcoming engagements. Warspite was restricted to easy free -legged work in saddle. j/el de Beau did not approve of being asked to go away from the mile and a-half peg from a standing start, and it was a few seconds before she struck the straps. Once under way the Nelson Bingen mare worked a solid ten furlongs, but there*was nothing to enthuse over when the clock stopped. • # Merry Makers Goldman conceded Stoney 18yds as they left the 12-furlong disc, while Evelyn Locarda was another 24yds back. Goldman was not going kindly and at the mile peg left his feet, losing a lot of ground. In the straight Evelyn Locanda ran past ytoney and had a 48vds advantage as the last halfmile was entered on. At this stage Torpedo Hu on and Gold Jacket, who were completing a two-mile solid jaunt, were a similar distance behind the white horse, but they caught him before the box was reached, having run a good go. Evelyn Locanda, showing a fine turn of speed, held her advantage out in front, while Gold Jacket's effort, unlioppled, was full of merit, * * * TH-# pearl of the morning was Mountain Dell’s lone-hand effort over a mile and a-half. She was not bustled over the early stages and reached the mile at approximately a 2.24 gait. A. Bryce asked the black mare for something better in the last three furlorgs and he got it without any struggle on Mountain Dell’s part. * * * Linnett the Great, who has a polish op. like a new coin, trotted faultlessly over several circuits without being requested to record any special time. The final circuit was accomplished at a 2.30 gait. * • • • Lady Eva was given a similar taskover three laps, and she kept to the correct gait like a good general. Her last half was cue out at about the same speed as the previous worker. Kewpie’s Guy and 'Whakahihi were strapped up and after a warm up over a lap or two hopped over half a mile at a solid bat. The Kewpie representative had the better of the bout, the bends troubling' the big son of Worthy Bond, who, however, paced well in the straight. ‘ A mile and a-half was as far as F. Gilchrist elected to send .Etta Cole and the chestnut mare made light work of her task. There was no attempt at watch-winding, but it was a nice piece of work all the same.
