Motor Racing

Plans Being, Made for Mangere and Muidwai Auckland will be well catered for with motor-racing this summer judging by plans which have already been made by the Auckland Automobile Racing Company and the Muriwai Motor Racing Club.

RACES AT MURIWAI The Muriwai Motor Racing Club has recently held its annual meeting, and elected the following committee:— Messrs. H. Valentine (chairman), Ron. Talbot, George Campbell, A. Davie, Monks, Hardley and A. J. Roycroft. The club is convinced from its experience last year that the public likes beach racing, and has arranged a meeting for the last Saturday in January, which is January 25. The tides will be right on that afternoon, and no other fixtures have been made for that date. The committee proposes to make the laps of about one mile each way, in order to make the racing more spectacular and keep the cars always before the public. It is reported that a huge 12-cylinder Rolls-Royce speed-car, will make its appearance here in January. The driver says that the car is capable of over. ISO m.p.h., and will probably do this on Muriwai, given a clear run. MANGERE SPEEDWAY The Auckland Automobile Racing Company is working hard on the plans for the first race meeting of the season at Mr. G. Henning’s Speedway at Mangere. This will probably be held at the end of next month. During the past few months the track at Mangere has been consolidated and should now provide a strong j bard surface capable of much faster I speeds than have previously been | known. i Answers to a questionnaire sent to American farm women showed that in their opinions the motor-car came first in life’s necessities. Running water in the kitchen was second, a sink third, telephone fourth, and radio fifth.
