SUCCESSFUL EVENING AT GLENFIELD FOR LABOUR QUEEN s very enjoyable evening was spent xt the Glcnfield Schoolroom, on SaturdaV, where an old-time dance and Five Hundred tournament were held in [he interests of the Labour queen. Thu dance music supplied by the Aoberts Bros.' orchestra was greatly appreciated The winners of the tournament were Mrs. Bengell and Mr. Leatheart. The Labour queen. Mrs. 11. Godfrey, chose a dainty frock of daffodil crepe do chine, with uneven hemline. Among those also present were: Mrs. T. Leatheart, who wore green marocain. relieved with oriental trimming; Mrs. Robe, flame taffeta, with posy; Mrs. A. Elliott (Hamilton), black ssorgette, witli gold trimmings; Mrs. H. Dowsing, frock of floral crepe de chine; Vis, Gracie, cinnamon marocain, with oriental trimmings; Mrs. Turner, printed crepe de chine frock; Mrs. G. Pugh, black silk with uneven hem; Mrs. J. Stewart, royal blue georgette with posy to tone; Mrs. A. Skinner, orange crepe de chine, relieved with silver; Mrs. Roberts, black aatin, with shawl; Miss A. Petersen, apricot floral silk; Miss E. Hewitt, flame riff eta, with posy to tone; Miss K. Sersunset pink satin and gold lace, with shawl to match; Miss J. PONSONBY BRANCH OF W.C.T.U. The Ponsonby Branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union met in St. Stephen’s Hall on Thursday afternoon. Miss Read presided over a sood attendance. An appeal on behalf of the children of the Willard Home was made and a "bring and buy” sale in connection with this will be held on Thursday, November 7. The delegates who attended th© recent District Convention, held in Onehunga, gave short reports of the doings of Convention. Being Franchise Day,” the president. Miss Read, read a very interesting paper dealing with “How The Women of New Zealand Won the Franchise.” Afternoon tea brought a very enjoyable afternoon to a close. SUCCESSFUL DANCE NORTHERN WAIROA GOLF CLUB A most successful dance was conducted by the Northern Wairoa Golf Club, at the Theatre Royal Dargaville, on Friday. A cabaret supper prepared and served by the club was a feature of the evening. The Glee Club Orchestra provided a splendid programme of music, while extras were contributed by Miss T. Smith and Mr. Trevor Gould. Dr. M. Greville was a 1 apable official in the capacity of M.C., and was responsible largely for the success of the function.
