JEWISH SOCIAL CLUB
MRS. HENRIETTA IRWELL GUEST OF HONOUR AUCKLAND ENTERTAINMENT A largely attended and very pleasant function was held on Sunday evening at the Auckland Jewish Social Club, when a farewell reception was given to Mrs. Irwell, vice-president of the Women's International Zionist Organisation, London, and to her niece. Miss Forster. The Rev. S 5. A. Goldstein, president of the Auckland Zionist Society, presided, and before calling upon Mrs. Irwell to address the meeting, he paid high tribute to Mrs. Irwell, who lias just returned from a trip with Mrs. David Nathan, when they met Zionist Societies throughout the Dominion. The Rev. Mr. Goldstein,, in wishing Mrs. Irwell and Miss Forster “Bon Voyage,” expressed the wish that their stay in the Dominion had been a pleasurable one and that they would always have happy memories of New Zealand and its people. Mrs. Irwell gave an inspiring address on Palestine and the many organisations which are helping to upbuild the Jewish national home, and told of many historic gatherings and personalities in modern Jewish history. A vote of thanks to Mrs. Irwell was proposed in a very .happy manner by Mr. Chas. Nathan, who was ably supported by Mr. Max Robinson, hon. secretary of the Auckland Zionist Society, and Mr. Louis Phillips. On behalf of the Women's Zionist Society of the Dominion, Mrs. David Nathan wished Mrs. Irwell God-speed and assured her that her vis** *-o these shores had been and would be an inspiration to all the Jewish women of New Zealand. To commemorate Mrs. Irwell s visit, the New Zealand Women's Zionist Society has decided to inscribe (for a second time) the name of Mrs. Irwell in the Golden Book of the Jewish people. Later supper was served and afterward the large assembly took the opportunity of saying au revoir in person to the guests of the evening.
