BUSH FIRE’S DAMAGE
100 ACRES CLEARED HOUSE DESTROYED Press Association INVERCARGILL, Monday. ; About 100 acres of bush at Otatara, a few miles from Invercargill, were destroyed by fire this afternoon. At one stage the fire was burning so fiercely that it seemed that nothing | could prevent the flames, which were ! fanned by a strong wind, sweeping | across a much wider area and destroying a number of summer residences | in the district. i Although several houses were in imminent danger only one was destroyed. Bucket brigades had a strenuous time and did splendid work in keeping the fire from doing more extensive damage. ! The fire had died down appreciably ; this evening.
