MAJESTIC

“INNOCENTS OF PARIS”

Maurice Chevalier is a new and vivid personality on the screen. Auckland already is charmed by-him, and fascinated. "Before he came to pictures, and “Innocents of Paris” is his first, Chevalier was the idol of the. French comedy stage. Signed by Paramount fot* this story of Paris, he is the newest luminary of the stellar firmament of Hollywood and bids fair to become the most popular. “Innocents of Paris” is now in its second week at the Majestic Theatre, and featured in the cast are Sylvia Beecher, who was a well-known Broadway stage star, and George Fawcett.

From a humble beginning Maurice Chevalier has risen to the top of the ladder as an entertainer. For many seasons he set Paris agog with appearances at the Casina, Follies Berger e and The Femina. He took London by storm when he appeared with Elsie Janis in her revue. Ho matter where he has played, his electric personality, his genial smile and his gifted talents have made him a reigning favourite. For years he was the partner of Mistinguette, the world’s most famous dancer, and now he stands —the idol of the European stage. The Hew York “Evening Graphic” said of this picture. “The Innocents of Paris”:—"The playbills distributed at the Ziegfeld Roof list Maurice Chevalier as ‘the idol of London and Paris’ and, alter witnessing his American debut Monday midnight one suspects he will in time be one of the idols of New York. The very personable and entertaining visitor was welcomed by a rooflifting ovation, and when the affectionate reception subsided, he delivered liis routine of lively numbers.”

A particularly bright supporting programme of short talkies is also being presented. There is a Fox Movietone News, in which the voice of the Prince of Wales is heard: an all-talk-ing comedy: a singing feature: and in addition, selections by the Majestic Orchestra.

On Friday next the Majestic will present an entirely new programme headed by a fine all-talking production entitled “Masquerade.”
