RIFLE SHOOTING
PAEROA DEFENCE CLUB The opening of the third season of the Paeroa Defence Itifie Club took place on the Paeroa rifle range on Saturday in glorious weather. There was a good attendance of members and visitors. The president of the club. Captain F. C. Hubbard, formally opened the season by calling upon Mrs. H. Simmonds to fire the first shot —the result being signalled a bull’s-eye, amid applause from the onlookers. The members then fired a sweepstake match at 200 and 500 yards. The new 71-inch bull at 200 yards, and 15-inch bull at 500 yards, were used. These are smaller than formerly used. The results of the shooting were as follow: Captain Simmonds, 33 at 200yds, 32 at 500yds, total 65; Rifleman H. A. Morrison, 32, 30—G2; Rifleman E. Mead, 29, 31 —GO; Dep. President. R. T. ’Wells, 30. 29 —59: Rifleman A. A. Jenkinson, 27, 31— 58: Rifleman R. I. Roberts, 28, 28—56; Rifleman H. W. Morrison. 31, 25—56; President F. C. Hubbard, 33, 25—56; Rifleman R. Morris, 32, 24—56: Rifleman W. A. Reid. 27. 28—55; Rifleman D. Currie, 29, 26—55; Rifleman E. Turton, 30, 24—54; Rifleman R. W. Roberts, 29. 24—53; Rifleman, R. Fraser, 24, retired. Afternoon tea was served at the 500 yards mound, at which the president took the opportunity of welcoming the visitors to the range. He stated that it had been decided that a separate day bo set aside far the entertainment of neighbouring clubs.
