PLANES AT WANGANUI

AERIAL TOUR CONTINUES LANDING GROUND PROPOSED (Special to THE SUN) WANGANUI, Monday. Continuing their North Island tour, the three Auckland airplanes,'accompanied by one of the Hamilton Airways machines, arrived at Wanganui this morning after a flight of lhr 10 min from New Plymouth. On leaving New Plymouth shortly after ten o’clock, three of the machines kept formation while Mr. lan Horton’s machine climbed through the clouds to 4,500 feet, toward Mount Egmont, for photographic purposes. The airmen experienced a pleasant trip to Wanganui, where they were welcomed at the landing ground by Mr. W. Rogers, Mayor of Wanganui, and Mr. A. S. Burgess, president of the Wanganui Aero Club. They were the guests of the Rotary Club at luncheon, and in the afternoon tWo school children, winners of an essay competition on aviation, were taken for flights. In discussing an airdrome for Wanganui with the visitors, officials stated that the Harbour Board has offered the municipality 100 acres at an annual rental of 2s 6d an a<*re. The local body has formed a committee, and the scheme is receiving very serious consideration. It is thought by aviators that it would be better if the proposal were tackled on more ambitious lines by the development of 200 acres. There are no,.obstructions on the approaches, and a runway of 800 yards in all directions could be provided. This would cater for the largest machines likely to be in service in New Zealand. During the evening a public meeting was addressed by Major G. A. C. Cowper and Mr. K. R. Hacket. ARRIVAL IN WELLINGTON PERFECT FLYING WEATHER Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. The Auckland Aero Club’s touring planes landed in Wellington at 11.25 this morning. Major Cowper and Mr. H. R. Hacket were in the first machine, Captain Bloomfield and Mr. R. J. Copley in the second and Mr. I. C. Horton, flying his own machine, and Air. R. Claire in the third. They left Wanganui at ten and had beautiful flying weather the whole way.
