TITLE BOUT

Wrestling Championship Contest VANCE AND EKLUND FIT There is considerable interest in the wrestling match for the light-heavy-weight championship of the world which takes place between Clarence Eklund and “Farmer” Vance at the Town Hall this evening. Both men are fit, according to report, and thrills can be expected when the pair get to grips on the mat. The men are of different styles, Eklund being quiet but business-like, while allowing his opponent to do all the hard work. Vance puts plenty of colour into his work and when he gets to grips there is something doing. Despite having only won one of his four contests in Auckland, Vance is a great favourite with the public and there is not one of the wrestlers who shades him in public favour. He is keen to win, to show the public that his Auckland record is not a true guide to his form, and he is confident that at the end of the bout this evening he will be light-heavy-weight champion of the world. The booking for the bout indicates that the Town Hall will be packed to the doors as on the occasion of the Vance-Naranjan Singh encounter, and it is expected that all previous records for attendance, and the number of those unfortunates who will not be able to gain admission, will be eclipsed. Those who gain admission should be treated to one of the greatest and cleverest wrestling contests that have been seen in this city. The matches this season have been exceptionally clean, fast and scientific, but when two men of the calibre of Vance and Eklund get down on the mat it is extremely probable that wrestling such as is seldom seen in this city will be witnessed. This may not be the case, but in his match here last week, Eklund demonstrated his cunning and his workmanlike skill, showing that Vance will have to be at his best, minus the impetuosity which has cost him two decisions, to win the title.
