SAI L*id)Al u es i wonderful day lor the bowling fraternity. Brilliant sunshine and greens in excellent condition made for good play and keen and exciting finishes. Many club and inter-club matches were played and the Pukekohe and Papatoetoe < lubs held their official openings.

PAPATOETOE The Papatoetoe bowling an<l croquet *nce on Saturday afternoon when the pfßcial opening was celebrated by a largo gathering of members of the club anti visitors from every club in the Auckland district. Ideal weather conditions prevailed, the greens were in splendid condition, and a very enjoyable afternoons bowling was indulged in between teams representing president v. vice-presidents. Among the visitors were Mr. J. M. Thomson, vice-president of the Auckland Bowling Centre. Mr. J. YV. Hardlev. membc-r of the Auckland Centre, and member of the Dominion Council, and Mr. G. Reid, member of the Auckland Bowling Centre executive. Mr. J Franklin, president of the Papaioetae Club, extended a cordial welcome fo the large gathering of members and visitors. Messrs. J. Thomson and J W Hard ley also spoke. Mrs. Franklin then threw the first jack, after which Mr. franklin officially declaied the greens open for the 1929-30 season. MATAMATA The Mataniata Bowling and Croquet Clubs officially, opened the season on Saturday afternoon in glorious weather and a record attendance. Mr. W. Egan declared the greens open and hoped those present would spend an enjoyable afternoon. The Mataniata Bowling Club had a fine record and had won the Clothier Shield and Goldfield Stars. One of their members was the singles champion of the Waikato and the members were proud of him. Mrs. Egan rolled up the kitty and bowled the first ball and the green was declared open. Telegrams and greetings were read bv the secretary, Mr. W. A. Gordon. Mrs. W. A. Crabb drove the first ball through the hoop and the croquet season was declared open.
