Philistines Hold Drama Evening

NOVEL ENTERTAINMENT TWO PLAYS GIVEN A new form of entertainment was given at the Philistines’ revel., held in the Operatic Society’s Hall on Saturday evening, when two plays, which were thoroughly enjoyed by the large number of members and friends present, were produced. The first, “A String of Pearls,” was an Original drama by J. Youlin Birch. It was enthusiastically received, with calls for “Author!” The players were: —Mrs. N. M. McCallum, Mrs. Harle Giles, Miss Dorothy Wright, Messrs. H. King, B. Hartman, O. McGregor, E. Newling, and R. D’Este. The second play, entitled “The Vanity Bag,” was also excellently presented. Those taking part were:—Mrs. H. Trevelyan King, Miss Ormiston, Miss Vera Ziman, and Mr. Hartman. Mr. Fred McCallum was the producer. Other interesting items were orchestral selections by the Misses Moore (3) and an address on “The Modern Drama.” by Mr. D. W. Faigan. Miss Jean Macindoe’s orchestra played the music for dancing, which, with an interval for supper, was continued until midnight. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Saunders were host and hostess for the evening. Some very charming frocks were noticed among the jolly crowd of dancers, most of them being in the new ankle-length style beloved of our grandmothers. AMONG THOSE PRESENT Mrs. N. AT. McCallum wore a chick frock of black georgette and diamente. Mrs. J. W. Saunders was in bols de rose taffeta, with chantilly lace and shawl. Airs. T. Harle Giles was in powder blue georgette frock, with uneven hemline. Airs. J. F. Alontague had on rose velour, with long uneven hem. AJrs. H. Trevelyan King chose cherry chenille georgette, with hankerehief points and diamente buckle. Airs. J. A. Cahill was wearing black georgette, with crystal beaded design. Airs. Ben Gittos had chosen flame crepe de chine and lace. Airs. Lorna N. Spinley was frocked in blue georgette and silver lace, anklelength at back. Mrs. A. Cerutty, wore black lace over gold lame. Mrs. C. AlcLean chose cameo pink georgette, beaded in silver and rose, with uneven hemline. Mrs. Wright had on cameo shot taffeta, ivory embroidered shawl. Airs. J. W. Wilson was in rose georgette over peach satin. Airs. Gilmour favoured briar rose georgette, with medallions of silver lace and velvet flowers, and a large hip bow of goblin blue taffeta. Airs. J. Ormiston was wearing black satin, with gold embroideries. Airs. P. Le Grice wore a white satin and tulle frock, with uneven liem. x AJrs. Leonard Hunt was in a lettuce green taffeta frock. Airs. Ivan Ec.cles chose blue georgette and pointed lace, trimmed with rosebuds. Airs. Walter Broad had on flowered chiffon over gold tissue, hand-painted shawl. Mrs. E. Crawford wore nile green crepe de chine and shawl. Airs. Isa Barker chose an orchid taffeta frock. Airs. IT. W. Shackelford was in amber ninon and panne velvet.

Airs. F. L. Armitage had on a grey chenille velvet frock. Airs. At. Regan wore flesh pink georgette and lace. Miss Isemonger chose silk georgette in lilac shades. Mrs. S. Dickinson wore red satin, with net frills, ankle-length at the back. Airs. Douglas Vernon (Te Kuiti) favoured a black sequined frock. Airs. Barnett had on black velvet, with uneven hem. Mrs. A. D. Hamilton wore black moire, with uneven hem. Airs. E. B. Lovell was in a gold sequin frock and green shawl. FRENCH ROSE GEORGETTE Airs. Oscar Boak wore a French rose georgette frock. Airs. S. G. Randell chose pink shot taffeta. Aliss Laura Walker had chosen cyclamen georgette with diamente trimming. Aliss Alurjorie Cerutty was wearing black georgette and diamente. Miss Eileen Adkins favoured black georgette and diamente. Aliss Aloira Clarke had on black lace over pink, with uneven hem. Aliss Doreen D’Authreau wore a rose satin and gold lace, uneven hem. Aliss Kathleen Aickin was in a tiered frock of bronze taffeta shot with blue. Aliss R. AlcCallum was wearing powder blue geoi'gette, uneven hem. Aliss Alollie Heard chose turquoise shot taffeta with pink georgette hem. Aliss Alollie Overton had on a period frock of white georgette and lace. Aliss Arollie Forsyth was wearing ivory beaded georgette. Aliss Rona Dale chose shell pink georgette and embroidered lace. Miss Redmond wore white georgette, beaded in crystal. Aliss Nance Chambers chose an anklelength frock of ivory georgette with frills. Aliss Isemonger wore an apricot lace dress. Aliss Lillian Quinn was in a lace frock over satin in cameo pink shade. Aliss G. Ashcroft had chosen pink georgette with silver lace trimming. Aliss AI. Petersen wore midnight blue georgette with cherry hip bow. Aliss Irene Nicol (Gore) chose silver tissue over delphinium blue georgette. Aliss Nicol had on apple green satin, with overdress of silver. Aliss P. Petersen wore geranium red georgette, Avith embossed wrap. Aliss Jean Dallen had chosen geranium red georgette and diamente trimming. Aliss Stella Alarks chose a bouffant frock of nile green taffeta. Aliss V. Fielder was in a floral georgette frock with uneven hem. Miss Raye Alurphy Avore a lemon taffeta and tulle frock. Aliss Jean Chambers chose cameo pink georgette with skirt of frills. Aliss Ethel Hill Avas Avearing a peach ring velvet frock.
