Kemball lias returned from a visit to Hawke’s Bay. if * * Auckland visitors at Wanganui are the hisses K. and AI. McCarten. Mrs. Roy C. Russell, of Fairfax Road, Epsom, has returned from Wanganui. A Hamilton visitor to Auckland is Mrs. R. T. Reid. She is staying at the Hotel Cargen. Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Armstrong, of Te Awamutu. are among the guests at the Hotel Cargen. M&sterton visitors to Auckland are Mrs. Holmes anrl Miss Holmes. They are staying at the Hotel Cargen. Mrs. Frank Graham, of Christchurch, will arrive in Auckland on Saturday. She will stay at the Grand Hotel. Mrs. H. F. Holmden, of Herne Bay, and her mother, Mrs. Bennett, of Papatoetoe, have returned from Palmerston North. Miss D. Cox, who lias been touring the North and South Islands for the past two months, has now returned to her home in Epsom. Miss Mowbray, president of the Victoria League, and Miss Nation, secretary, have gone to Wanganui for the Victoria League Conference. Mrs. W. H. Faulkner, of Hillside Crescent, Mount Eden, has returned to Auckland. She has been visiting friends in Dunedin and Christchurch.
Mr. and *Mrs. G. Reid, of Wellington, Mr. and Mrs. H. Liver, of England, Mrs. Buchanan, of Gisborne, and Miss Falkiner. of Australia, are guests at the Grand Hotel.
Week-end visitors to Auckland were Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Didsbury, of Wellington. They were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. 11. Didsbury, of Papatoetoe. They have gone to Rotorua. Miss Olive M. Rowe, of Christchurch, has been awarded a studentship at the British School of Archaeology in Athens. Her research will be either terra-cottas or tomb-reliefs, and she expects to spend at least four months there. MATAMATA NOTES Mrs. C. W. Turner has been to Wellington attending the Dominion Council of the Mothers’ Union. Mrs. E. C. Banks has returned from a visit to her daughter, Mrs. E. Dobson, Wellington. Mrs. F. Hutchison has returned from a visit to her mother in Dunedin. Mr. and Mrs. S. Clarke have left Aiatamata to reside in Taupiri. Mrs. 11. Kiely has returned from a visit to her parents in Hamilton. Mrs. C. Hitchcock, Rotorua, has been spending a short holiday with her sister, Miss A. Robinson. Misses Judd, Thames, have been on a visit to Miss G. Vosper. Miss F. Barclay, Huntly, is the guest of Mrs. J. F. Vosper, Rawhiti. Mrs. J. C. Borthwick, Kaikoura, after visiting her sister, Mrs. F. Banks, left on Friday for Fordell and Wanganui. , Mrs. Stuart Masters, Kaitaia, is on a visit to her daughter, Mrs. W. C. i Ivirtlan, Matamata. COMING-OF-AGE PARTY A jolly little party assembled at Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Vosper’s residence, Rawhiti, on Wednesday evening, to celebrate the coming of age of their daughter Ruth. Bowls of narcissi adorned the reception and supper rooms. Mrs. Vosper, in black georgette and chantilly lace, received the guests. Miss Ruth Vosper wore old gold satin beaute; Miss M. Vosper, sage green art silk; and Miss Sargeant, black souple satin. During the evening appropriate speeches were made and Miss Ruth was presented with a golden key. Those present were:—Mesdames Gard-ner-Brown, ivory embossed crepe de chine; Hobbs (Te Aroha), black ring velvet; Smith, rosewood jersey eharmeline; Oates, ivory crepe de chine; Carley, floral crepe de chine; Schofield, moonlight blue georgette; Misses G. Vosper, sunset crepe de chine with diamente trimming E. Vosper, eau de nil crepe de chine; Judd (Thames), sea foam green crepe de chine; A. Judd, primrose crepe de chine; Davidson, lime green taffeta; McCardle, delphinium blue panne velvet; Barclay (Huntly), black and gold lame; Banks, orchid and silver taffeta; Hobbs (Te Aroha), black velvet; Roberts, black beaded frock: Baker, nile green bengaline; Bates, smoke blue and silver taffeta; B. Bates, lacquer red satin; Connolly, betty blue satin and gold lace; Whitworth, pompadour pink georgette and gold lace; Smith, apricot lace. ANNUAL RUGBY DANCE The annual dance of the Matamata Rugby Union was held in the Town Hall on Thursday evening, when a large gathering assembled from all parts of the district. The hall was tastefully decorated. Pennell’s orchestra supplied the music. Mr. J. E. Cummings, president, gave a short resume of the season, which he considered the most successful in the history of the union. The seniors had performed creditably and the juniors had excelled themselves. The union was in a sound financial position and there was every prospect of a successful season next winter. Mr. Cummings presented the Barry Cup and Union Banner. also the Concrete Cup. to the Matamata senior team. Wardville won the Junior Cup and the Frank Rose Shield in the junior competition, and also carried off the banner and cup in the third grade. The Primary Schools’ Cup was won by Matamata.
