MRS. RUTH WHITEFIELD A resident of tile Dominion for 51 years, Mrs. Ruth Whitetleld, of PukeLohe, died yesterday, closely following li r husband, Mr. John Wliitefield, whose death occurred nine days ago. Mr. and Mrs. Whitefleld came from England in the sailing ship Waitangi. living in the South Island for three years before they came North to Oue, Hokiangu, in 1881. Here they lived for 35 years, moving later to Mount Albert and then to Pukekohe. Mrs. Whitefleld is survived by six f*ons and two daughters. There are 3.7 grandchildren and five great-grand-children. MR. FRANCIS DRAKE The death of Mr. Francis Drake, who claimed to be a descendant of Sir Francis Drake, the famous British ndmiral, occurred at his home in Cooper Street. Arch Hill, on Saturday, at the age of 85. Mr. Drake was born at Johnsonvilie, near Wellington. He was farming on the Hauraki Plains near Waihi for many years, retiring about eight years .-.go. He took a keen interest in the Salvation Army, with which he was associated for 32 years, holding the rank of colour-sergeant at the time of his death. He was well known for liis work along the waterfront. He leaves a daughter. The service at the graveside in Waikumete Cemetery yesterday was conducted by Adjutant I. Briddock. A memorial service was held in the Ponsonby Salvation Army Hall in the evening.
