BABY DIES FROM SCALDS

ELECTRIC KETTLE UPSET From Our Own Correspondent OPOTIKI, Today. Severe scalds, resulting in death, •were received by a 10-months-old infant. John, son of Mr. A. N. Boynton, of Waimana, through the upsetting of an electric kettle. The accident occurred last Monday and the child died in the Opotiki Hospital. A verdict that death was due to pneumonia and shock following scalds was returned at the inquest this afternoon by the coroner. Mr. F. J. Short. The evidence showed that the mother placed an electric kettle on the floor to make room on the table. Before j»oing outside she asked a visitor, iVli. Lock, who was nursing the child, to place him. on the floor. The mother then went outside to empty a teapot and the child pulled the kettle over, the contents spilling on his head, chest and limbs. He was immediateljtaken to hospital, where he died on Friday night.
