METHODIST ANNIVERSARY

EIGHTY-FIFTH YEAR COMMEMORATION SERVICES The Ssth anniversary of the establishment of Methodism in Auckland aud the 63rd anniversary of the opening of the Pitt Street Church were celebrated yesterday by special services in the church. At the morning service the Rev. Dr. C. H. Laws, principal of Trinity College, preached on “The Value of Small Ministries of Life.” A solo. “A Dream of Paradise,” was given by Mrs. L. Collier. The anthem was “Lift Up Your Hearts.” The preacher in the afternoon was the Rev. H. L. Richards, of Takapuna. The oratorio. “God. Thou Art Great.” was sung by the choir, the principals being Misses Phyllis Hazel and Lilian Woods and Messrs. F. E. Sutherland and W. Leather. Air. R. B. Bickertou was organist. The Rev. W. Walker, who conducted the evening service, preached on “Man’s Inherent Need of God.” The soloists were Mrs. A.. Rattray and Mr. Thomas. Sacred numbers were sung by a quartet comprising Mr.. Mrs. and Aiiss L. Leather and Mr. K. Rosser. An At Home for old folk will be held on Thursday afternoon, and an anniversary rally will take place in the evening.
