ASIATIC INQUIRY
PREPARATION OF REPORT The inquiry into the association of Maori girls with Chinese and Indians, ordered by the Minister of Nativ* Affairs. Sir Apirana Ngata, has now concluded. Commencing at the middle of next week, the committee, which has been conducting investigations, will proceed with drafting the report to be submitted to the Government. Dr. T. J. Hughes, medical officer of health, chairman; Mr. Tukere Te Anga, of the Xative Department; and Mr. W. Slaughter, of the Labour Department, returned to Auckland last evening after spending over a week examining the conditions of employment of Maori girls in Asiatic market gardens in the Otaki, Foxton, Levin, and Wanganui districts. Some time will elapse before the report will be ready.
