I The Union station was thronged when the special train arrived with Mr. Ramsay MacDonald. Cheers- resounded. Assistant-Secre-tary Castle, of the State Department, Lady Howard. and Mrs. Stimson greeted the Prime Minister and his daughter. Mr. MacDonald. Mr. Stimson and j Captain Len Buchanan, naval aide to j the President, occupied the first auto-! mobile for the ride to the Embassy. The British Ambassador, Sir Esme Under-Secretary Cotton, of Idle State Department, and Colonel Campbell Hodges, military aide to. the president, occupied the next car, and Lady Howard, Mrs. Stimson and Miss Ishbel MacDonald, the third. The procession moved slowly toward tjae Capitol and the Embassy. Two troops of cavalry and a battalion of artillery formed an escort, and tyvo airplane formations hovered overhead. President Hoover greeted Mr. MacDonald warmly with a handclasp at the White House late on Friday. It was their first meeting. Mr. MacDonald was escorted to greet the President in the Blue Room by Captain Buchanan. The leaders exchanged salutations and then proceeded to the Green Room, accompanied by Sir Esme Howard. They joined Miss Ishbel MacDonald, Lady Howard, and the group proceeded to the Red Room, where Mrs. Hoover waited. A chat followed until Mr. MacDonald and his party left for the British Embassy.
