Football Dance
SUCCESSFUL EVENING ARRANGED BY WAIUKU RUGBY CLUB STREAMERS OF GOLD AND BLACK The Waiuku Rugby Union dance v>d.s held in the Public Hall, Waiuku, on Wednesday evening and proved the most successful function of its kind ever held in the district. The stage and hall were artistically decorated with streamers of gold and black, the colours of the Waiuku representative footballers, and excellent music was supplied by Bendall’s Collegian Orchestra. while appreciative extras were contributed by Mrs. A. James and the ••News" Trio. assisted by Mr. 11. Webster (violin;. Messrs. G. Arkle and F. Harvey made courteous and efficient M.C.’s. During an interval. Mr. A. Duthie, president of the Waiuku Rugby Union, presented trophies and caps to the winners of the club’s junior and senior competitions, and congratulated the Aka Aka juniors and the «'ity senior teams on their achievement. He then handed the cup to Mr. Moyle, who captained the Aka Aka juniors, and the shield in the City skipper, Mr. F. Harvey. In presenting the South Auckland junior Shield to the Waiuku junior representatives, the president mentioned that this team had put up a Aery good performance, and the win marked the first occasion on which a Waiuku team had succeeded in winning this shield. On behalf of the South Auckland Rugby Union Mr. Duthie then presented the championship shield to the captain, Mr. E. Moyle, amid applause. The Waiuku senior representative team was also heartily congratulated by Mr. Duthie. During the season :be team had withstood challenges for the Massey Cup from the Waikare, Pukekohe, Manukau and Franklin Clubs, and amid applause he asked Messrs. J. Bishop and B. Kearey to accept the cup, hearty' cheers being given by' the audience. Mr. Duthie next presented caps to the representative team and apologised for the absence, through sickness, of five of the players. Among those present were: Mesdamcs B. Wright wore pink lace and georgette: Miss E. Barton, pink satin Weaute, rhinestone trimming. Miss M. Henry, primrose georgette; Miss L. Watson. black guipure lace over gold chiffon velvet; Miss R. Brighouse, mauve taffeta with black panne velvet applique; Miss O. Harcombe. petunia taffeta and silver lace; Miss D. Brighouse, sunset taffeta and lace: Miss R.
