ERADICATING A PEST
PIGS AND CHICKENS HELP Noting that wild boars were effective enemies of caterpillars that were rapidly eating up 6,000 acres of woodland in the valley of the Bresch, in Alsace, farmers have turned loose farm pigs and chickens. The animals turn over the ground and eat or destroy the pupae, a measure more effective than any devised by the Agricultural Department experts.
