Spring Fashions Make Their Debut aft Ellerslie
FASHION NEWS FROM FRANCE;
There are three materials which I matter most just now in the smart i world of dress: Jersey in various! fancy weaves for morning wear, crepe ' de chine for afternoon, and satin for evening. The Afternoon Mode So many different “little frocks’* of crepe de chine there are that we cannot grow weary of them. They are so beautiful and varied that you feel thoroughly pleased with the one you have chosen until you see those of your best friends. Then you want a new one! Foremost comes the dress of heavy black crepe de chine. A specially alluring one was made with a slim blouse pouched at the waist and a belt so arranged as to suggest a slight upward slope in front. The skirt was made full by means of graduated shaped godets let in stepwise—low at the back but rising until the front one was like a fluting panel from waist to hem. The “movement” of this skirt was a poem! At the neck and wrists of the bodice were narrow folds of green and white georgette, similar . folds finishing the liem of the godet skirt. Plain and Printed Fabrics We are used to the bodice of printed crepe de chine allied to a skirt of plain material. But it is now considered far more chic to have a finely kilted skirt of the patterned crepe and a plain top, the latter being cleverly finished with a loose scarf and cuffs repeating the skirt motif.
