SMITH’S ATLANTIC HOP
CONFERENCE WITH WRIGHT COMPANY START FROM CRANWELL (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) NEW YORK, Monday. Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith conferred with the Wright Company’s officials today. He told them the Southern Cross, with its three motors, consumed an average of about 32 gallons of petrol an hour across the Pacific. The airman estimates that he could fly from England to the United States on 1,550 gallons In 50 hours. Tile machine could easily rise with such a load. Kingsford Smith proposes to use a 2J-mile runway in the Royal Airfield at Cranwell, England, for the take-off for New York.
