S.H.C. STEEPLECHASE GILHOOLY’S GOOD TIME More than 210 competitors in all took part in the two road races, senior and junior, conducted by the Sacred Heart College yesterday afternoon. The entries were double the number for the previous year - . Both events commenced and finished on the school grounds, and covered in all more than three and a-half miles. Competitors, on leaving the college grounds, turned into Oliphant Street, thence along John Street to Jervois Road, down West Road, across a creek Into Lockwood Avenue, Peel Street, and go into Richmond Road and home again. ' The junior event attracted a large number of diminutive but very enthusiastic young steeplechasers, who lost no time on the earlier pa.rt of the journey. The event resulted: C. Molloy, 27min 32sec 1 T. Hawke, 27min 45sec 2 F. Respinger, 27min 56sec .... 3 Molloy ran a fine race, and finished by a comfortable margin. N. McCarthy (TV.A), off the 4min mark, secured fastest time by covering the distance in a net time of 24min S 6sec. The senior race, held after the junior one, had also a heavy handicap list. The eight scratch men were P. Hura, N. Shanly, W. Barker, T. McCarthy, F. Gilhooly, A. Moriarty, M. Elliot, and L. Myles. Result: B. Keenan. 23min 47sec . . 1 E. Hall, 23min SOsec 2 T. Gilhooly, 22min 44sec .... 3 Fastest time: T. Gilhooly. Gilhooly, who won the event last year, thus broke the college record by covering the distance in 22min 44sec.
