Appeal for Funds

War Memorial Cenotaph

A public appeal is to be launched to collect funds to complete the building of a cenotaph, a court of honour and their surrounding features, at the Auckland War Memorial Museum. The sum of approximately £5,700 has been contributed by members of the War Memorial Committee and their friends, and further sums which have been promised will bring the sum in hand up to £6,440. It is believed that a sum of £11,500 will be required to complete the

scheme, and now the public is to be asked to subscribe the remainder of the sum. The War Memorial Committee met last evening and decided to launch a public appeal for funds. It is believed that this public appeal was contemplated some time ago, but the earthquake interfered with the decision. Later, when an appeal for relief came for the victims of the earthquake, the Auckland War Memorial Committee’s appeal was held over.
