MR. J. BERN Tlie death occurred on Saturday uf Air. Joseph Bern, of Tamaliere, an old settler of the Waikato district. Born cst Tamaki, Auckland, TO year* ago, Mr. Bern went to the Waikato 4$ years ago, and purchased a farm at Tamahere, where he had lived ever since. He was married twice, and is survived by his wife, two sons and op** daughter. MR. J. WHITEFIELD A pioneer of the Mokianga district, Mr. John Wliitefield has died at Pukekohe. where he had lived for several years, at the age of 76. Born in Hexham. England. Mr. White field came t° Xew Zealand with his wife in the sailing-ship Waitangi 51 years ago and after spending three years in the South Island took up land at Hokianga where he lived for 35 years. He retired and came to live in Mount Albert but five years ago removed to Pukekolie. Mr. Whitefleld Is survived by his wife, six sons and two ' daughters. There are 35 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. MR. JOHN NICHOLAS The death of Mr. John Xicholas. an earl3' settler of Howick, occurred at his home on Sunday at the age of SB. Born in Aberdeen. Scotland. Mr. Nicholas came to Xew Zealand with his parents in 1847 when a boy of 6ix years. About 70 years ago he took over the freehold of a farm on which he has spent his whole life. His wife, whom he married in 1871. died 27 years ago. Mr. Nicholas is survived bj’ two sons. MR. EDMUND WRIGLEY An old Auckland resident, and tor many years a member of the old Kden Terrace Road Board, Mr. Edmund Wrigley, who arrived from Yorkshire 6G years ago. died on Saturday at the age of 85. Mr. Wrigley. who .was one of the foundation members of the Oddfellows’ Lodge in Auckland, was recently' made a life member of the lodge in recognition of his services.
