In the Market Place

NEW FRUIT SHIPMENTS ORANGE INQUIRY GOOD Two new shipments of fruit reached Auckland today. The Tofua, from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga, brought tomatoes, bananas and kumeras, and the Ulimaroa, from Sydney, carried Navel and Valencia oranges, pines, passions and ioquats. The shipments were not large. In Australia at the moment, prices &re high, especially for citrus fruits. This position is already being reflected in Auckland by the firming tendency of several lines. The Niagara, due next Monday from Vancouver, will brjng Californian black grapes and Valencia oranges. The Californian grapes which have been sold in Auckland have so far been in excellent condition. Good dessert and cooking apples are in good demand. Bananas and oranges are selling well. In the vegetable auction new potatoes are moderately supplied. Other lines of vegetables are generally heavily supplied, with a keen demand for most offerings.
