SCHOOL ROAD RACE

VERMONT STREET EVENT More than 50 boys competed in the 13th annual junior road race of the Vermont Street Catholic School on Saturday. The course was from the school, through side streets to the Grey Lynn tram terminus, and thence along Richmond Avenue, Surrey Crescent and the Great North Road to St. Joseph's convent, a distance of more than two and a-lialf miles. The leaders set. a fast pace and kept it up till near the end of the journey. All the boys ran well, particularly the winner, Kennedy, who also made the fastest time, and the second boy, Wind, who led practically from the start until the end was in sight, when he commenced to tire. Blair annexed third place. The Herbert Smith Trust Cup for the winner was presented to Kennedy by Archdeacon Holbrook. Kennedy will also receive a medal for the fastest time. The senior read race will be beirl next Thursday.
