HUSBAND AND WIFE WOUNDED

Beth Slashed With Razor MAN ROUSES NEIGHBOURS Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Today. ALLEGING that he had been attacked by his wife with a razor, G. E. St. George, 40, a postal official living at 25 Melrose Street, was admitted to hospital early this morning •suffering from fairly severe wounds on the face, neck and arms. Subsequently Mrs. St. George was also admitted to hospital suffering from similar wounds. Both are progressing satisfactorily.

A neighbour was aroused by the sound of knocking at 1.30 a.m. and found St. George on the doorstep clad in his pyjamas, with blood streaming from wounds on the face, neck and arms. He asked that the police be sent for, alleging that his wife had attacked him with a razor after a quarrel. The neighbour then investigated and found Mrs. S. George also suffering from minor wounds. The police were sent for and the couple sent to hospital. The woman was only discharged from hospital on Sunday morning after treatment for illness. Ther# is one child, a boy of six. Neighbours state that the relations between the two have been strained for some time.

Very little is known about how the fracas started, as no one heard anything until it was all over. Neighbours were in bed at the time and though several heard a lot of noise as though furniture was being thrown about, no one took any notice, as it is stated that relations between Mr. and Mrs. St. George had been strained for some time. The first that anyone knew that something serious had happened was when a neighbour who lives on the opposite side of the road heard rattling on his window. He called out to ask who was there and a voice answered: “It’s St. George here. For God’s sake get the police and doctor. My wife’s attacked me. Be quick before she does for herself.”
