SEASIDE CAMPS
TREAT FOR CHILDREN AT WAIHEKE i; . * CITY MISSION’S SCHEME Waiheke Island beach will be the happy playground of more than 100 children, whose parents cannot afford |to send them to the seaside, this j summer. The youngsters will be j guests at the Auckland City Mission summer camp at Oneroa. With the | establishment of a permanent building on the mission’s property there this year it is hoped to take 120 children between the ages of 6 and 13, for a fortnight’s holiday. Splendidly situated, abutting on to the beach, the new building will be 40ft long and 36£t wide. A broad sunverandah will run along one side. A dining hall will occupy the centre of the building, with a dormitory at each end. Good ventilation will be a feature of the camp. It will be possible to accommodate children on the verandah, and also in tents, to eliminate overcrowding of the main building. Practically all the timber and furnishings for the building have been donated, and the structure will be erected by volunteer labour working I during week-ends. A medical officer and a trained i nurse will be in attendance at the j camp. . %
