MORRINSVILLE NEWS

LARGE PROPERTY SALE Negotiations were completed on Thursday for the purchase by "Wallace Supply Stores of the section on the corner of Thames and Moorhouse Streets at present occupied by A. and M. Mallett. The property was formerly owned by the estate of N. P. Jack, of Whangarei. The section has a frontage of 40ft- to Thames Street, and extends 90ft. down Moorhouse Street. Although the price has not been divulged it is said to be very satisfactory. It is understood that Wallace Supplies, which at present has premises in Canada Street, proposes erecting a two-storey brick building. The sale is one of the biggest in Morrinsvill© for a considerable time.

There were fifteen tables of players at a bridge evening held under the auspices of the St. Matthew’s Entertainment Committee. The winners were Mrs. J. Boles and Mr. S. C. Parlour. The lesser awards went to Miss Seales and Mr. J. Hopkins.

It is commented upon as being a curious thing that, while several years ago a plane visited Morrinsville for commercial purposes and arrangements were easily made for a landing ground in the vicinity of the town, considerable difficulty is now being experienced in finding a suitable area for the flight of the Aei'o Club planes proposed to visit Morrinsville next Thursday.

The top price at the National Jersey show and sale at Claudelands on Wednesday (227gn5.) was paid by Mr. W. C. Mears, of Ngarua, for Waipiko Conqueror, an outstanding tliree-year-old by Vivandiere’s Prince out of Waipiko Chlorine. On the sire's side Conqueror tz*a.ces back to the famous Vivandiere blood, and on the dam’s side to the outstanding Eminent blood lines. “Tho ratepayers have been losing hundreds of pounds through an up-to-date ‘map of the borough not being available,” said Cr. Chapman at last evening’s meeting of the Morrinsville Borough Council, The Mayor, Mr. W. McPherson, said the reference was apparently to the lire insurance rates. The Fire Underwriters’ Association required a modern map of the borough before a reduction in rates would be made.
