LARGE ORDER FOR TILES
11 TRUCKS LEAVE TAUMARUNUI . Until the year 1923 practically all I Marseilles pattern tiles used in New ; Zealand were imported from France. In that year Messrs. Win stone’s Lim- : ited commenced manufacturing this type of tile, and about live years ago i the last shipment of French-made tiles ! arrived in the Dominion. WinstoneV are now able to supply the entire New Zealand market and their produo . identical with that of France, ns far 1 as pattern is concerned, is recognised as the superior article. This week 32.000 tiles weighing 100 tons, and filling 11 trucks left the work.- • for the Nelson district. This is th« i largest consignment ever sent out eone time, although on one previous occasion, an order for 27.000 tiles was , executed. These were us**d in th* construction of the Nelson hospital, which by the way, suffered no damag* in the recent earthquake. This, with ■ the fact that the present consignment I is destined for the earthquake area. , speaks well for the durability of Win- ! stone tiles. About 6,000 purple, clouded, choci olate brown, and red tiles are to b-* used in the construction of a residencin colour blend, and the rest. 26,000. are to be used iu building the new Mental Hospital. The consignment is to be transhipped from Wanganui. Speaking to a Sun reporter, tho manager said that the hands had been working early and late since last ; Saturday, the whole order being executed in two working days. 1: must have been with a feeling of 1 pride that the factory staff saw the eleven trucks leave ill® work*.
