AWAPUNI DOINGS
DO rr IN as a hurdler hunting boy improving (Special to TUB SUB) PALMERSTON N., Friday. •With the arrival of improved weather eonduiohs, the trucks at Awaputi have firmed up materially. Sunart, who is this centre’s one rep reselltati VO in the Tomoana Hurdles at jiawke’s Bay, was worked on the plough in company with Otairi. the pair being sent a solid round, otairi may go Korth for the Auckland meeting, at which Rayonnant will also figure, the All Ked gelding being already on the scene of action. Askari. who was very lame after Wanganui, appears to be quite his old self again and he struck out freely in a seven-furlong gallop on the plough this week, although he required 1.26 to cover the last six furlongs. Tino Waiata (Hunting Song—Tino Atua) had the Hunting Song—Merry Boe youngster as a partner over three furlongs on the course proper, the pa ; r doing it nicely in 3$ 1-5. Another novice member In an unnamed Acre youngster from L,. Knapp's stable was partnered with Hunting Roy over the same distance, which was negotiated in 40 2-5. The Hunting Song three-year-old is rapidly assuming racing shape. while the Acre youngster shows distinct promise. To Race at Trentham Keddar. who will in all probability make his next appearance with the colours up at Trentham. ran five furlongs on the course proper this week in 1.11, the flags being about 43 feet out. Patearoa and Plane were associated in a gallop on the grass, the former drawing away In the run down the straight to cover the distance in 55 2-5. Rouex and King Acre jumped oft from the six-furlong post, the pair racing on terms into the straight, where Rouex drew clear to pass the post with a four lengths’ margin in his favour. King Acre will go through for the Trial Plate at Hawke's Bay, while Rouex claims a nomination at Napier park the week following. Kilorell picked up Fiery Comet in the region of the flve-furlong post to run out six furlongs in 1.27. the former finishing too strongly for his companion. Fiery Comet is picking up in condition. The hunter Te Arakura is being kept going by W. Bailey in preparation for hunters' flat and hurdle events. Smart Sprinter Moutoa Treasury was another worker who was restricted to light tasks on the plough, the Paper Money mare looking very well. Imperial Spark, who is now in R. E. Hatch's hands, was worked in company with the Royal Stag gelding Royal Mission. The latter arrived with something of a reputation, and he is settling down nicely and has shown a fair turn of speed. Two recruits to tho jumping game in Dobbin and Skyrider were sent over the battens, tho former, who has been schooled at intervals, fencing cleanly. Skyrider displayed a tendency to jump big. but the pace was not on sufficiently. An Acre—Sleeping Beauty colt had an unnamed Rangitero gelding and Robbie’s Mistake as companions over three furlongs, the first named pair finishing the better to complete their task in 41 2-5. Recent foalings announced locally are:—Railand, a chestnut colt to Lackham, and Oread, a bay colt to the same sire. The former is owned by Mr. J. Wallace and the latter by Mr. C. T. Keeble, both of whom are local sportsmen. Redlogue, who is the property of Mr. Foster, of Linton, has foaled to Lomond (by Polydamon). Basaloma was an earlier product of the same dam, RACING FIXTURES SEPTEMBER 25, 27—Geraldine R.C. 28—Hawke’s Bay J.C.
