No Alteration to Cable Service Here
WORKING OF MERGER DIFFERENCE IN CONTROL The cable-radio merger which comes into operation tomorrow will not make any obvious difference to the cable service in New Zealand. q"HE new arrangement has been brought about principally in the interests of working economy. Control at the head office in London will be the only change. Advice received at the office of the Pacific Cable Company in Auckland states that at 11 o’clock tonight headquarters will be moved to ElectroHouse, London, and the working of the new service will begin tomorrow. New Zealand will still have a representative on the Cable. Board In London. No definite information has been received about the future status of the cable ship Iris or the officers on board. The new company concerned with the cable-radio merger is known as Imperial and Empiradio. It was formed recently to take over, as recommended by the Imperial Cable Corfference of 1925, the Imperial and Empiradio services of the London Post Office as well as the services of the Pacific Cable Board, the Eastern Telegraph Company and Marconi’s Wireless Telegraph Company. Overseas telephone services and British-Continental telegraph services operated by the Post Office are not affected by the change.
