BOOSTING TAUPO

PRIME MINISTER IMPROVEMENTS MINERAL BATH SUGGESTED THE SI X'S Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, Thursday. That the Government would make a vote next year to provide a thermal bath in Taupo township lrom the waters of what is known as the A.C. (Armed Constabulary) bath, was the gist of a promise made by the Prime Minister. Sir Joseph Ward to a Taupo Road Board deputation. As the A.C. bath is some distance out from the township it was explained that it would be necessary for the water to be made to flow by flume or pipe to Taupo. but that that would not present difficulty, as there was a steady fall. There was no water supply in Taupo township and it was stated that this had often been commented on by tourists and other visitors. It was asserted that for years the possibilities of Taupo from the tourist viewpoint had been seriously neglected and that curious evidence of that was to be found in the railway time-table, which includes the names of other thermal districts, but omitted to mention Taupo. The representations were warmly supported by Messrs. C. H. Clinkard (Rotorua). F. Langstone (Waimarino*. W. E. Barnard (Napier), P. Fraser (Wellington Central), and R. Semple (Wellington East), the Wellington members of Parliament emphasising the opportunity afforded by Taupo for cheap bolida3's for workers. The Prime Minister said the Government had laid down a programme for improving Taupo and it was to be carried out. He undertook to have Taupo put on the list for tourist itineraries. The reason it had not been included in the railway guide previously was that Taupo could not be served by rail. He could not promire to spend money in the district this jear, but it would be done next year.
