NEW HARBOUR DREDGE

OTAGO BOARD'S PURCHASE (Special to THE SUN) DUNEDIN, Today. It is expected that the Otago Harbour Board’s new dredge, Otakou, will arrive at Dunedin next month. The vessel, which was constructed by Messrs. Fleming and Ferguson, of Paisley, Scotland, will cost £124.876 delivered at Port Chalmers. The dredge works with hoppers. She is 256 ft in length with 48ft beam, and her loaded draught is 15ft 9in. Her full load capacity of 2,000 tons can be dredged into the vessel in two hours. When fully loaded her 1,450 horsepower oil-burning engines will drive her at 9 knots and 104 knots when in light trim. The dredge is splendidly finished and very powerful. She is fitted throughout with electric light and the crew’s quarters have every convenience.
