SUCCESSFUL DANCE
lEBEKAH LODGE ENTERTAINS AT BIRKENHEAD A successful dance was held on Wednesday in the R.A.0.8. Hall, Birkenhead, when Harmony Rebckah Lodge entertained members of the Foresters’, Manchester Unity Oddfellows, Independent Order of Oddfellows and the Male Lodge of Aroatea. The dance music was supplied by Miss Stayte’s orchestra, and Air. X. Watson successfully carried out the duties of M.C. Among those present were:— Airs. J. P. AlcPhail. who had on navy georgette relieved with fawn: Airs.- Vincent, blue georgette with silver trimmings: Airs. W. Pike, black georgette and shoulder posy, shawl to tone; Airs. Brennan, shell pink taffeta with silver lace; Mrs. J. Butler, black crepe de chine relieved with rose; Airs. Layland, frock of brown crepe de chine. Airs. Watson, who wore black crepe de chine with uneven hem and rose posy; Mrs. Partridge, black panne velvet; Airs J. Goulden, frock of fig.ured silk; Airs. W. Jones, black satin relieved with dianiente buckle; Airs. E. Wallis, frock of navy silk; Airs. C. Rose, black and heliotrope silk frock: Airs. G. Sov/den, black crepe de soie with pink posy; Airs. Ripley, mauve velvet relieved with silver; Airs. F. Blackwell, cream silk, shawl to match; Aliss Eileen Roberts chose white georgette with gold lace trimming; Miss Dorothia Hutchinson, emerald green velvet. with scalloped hem, shawl to match. Aliss Esme Grenfell, who had on flame crepe de chine with fringed ski“: Aliss Irene Kelly, lemon crepe cle chine and tulle frock; Aliss L- AlcPhail, rose beige silk frock; Aliss Alavis Hutchinson, peacock blue crepe de chine and lace, and posy; Aliss I). Butler, apple green silk with coffee lace and posy; Aliss Sarah Reason, pale pink crepe de chine and silver lace: Aliss IX Benfell, black chiffon velvet with autumn shaded posy; Aliss E. Wilde, brown satin and lace frock; Aliss X. Phillips, flame crepe de chine with posy to match; Aliss T. Stinear, blue silk rayon frock. “KINDLY BUT RETICENT” ADDRESS ON MAORI RACE At a monthly meeting of the St. Heliers branch of the Tamalii Women’s Progressive League held recently, Airs. John Cook gave an interesting address to the members on the Alaori race. “They are indeed kindly, though a rather reticent race, possessing a natural graciousness which makes them a very charming people,” said Mrs. Cook, who has spent a good deal of time among the Maoris. She also spoke very strongly of the employment by Asiatics of Alaori women and girls.
