A LOVE FOR POLITICS Mies Rose Rosenberg, who is the British Prime Minister's private secretary, betrayed an early interest in politics, for slie ' wa3 a me ™ber o£ the women’s suffrage movement when she was only fourteen. Three years later s he became assistant to the editor of an Ahterican-Englisli mining magazine published in London. In 1918 she was on the staff of the Labour Party, and in 1923 she became Mr. MacDonald’s secretary. A YOUTHFUL GRANDMOTHER Although only forty years of age, Xrs. Michael Fitzhenry, of East Dedham, England. has thirteen living children and nine grandchildren. She is claimed to be the youngest grandmother with the largest family. IN INDIA Miss Sita Devadoss, a member of a distinguished family in Palamcotta, is stated to be the first Christian woman to become a barrister in India. She is also said to be the first woman barrister in the Madras presidency. ELECTRIC CLOCKS The art of making an old-fashioned dock into an up-to-date electric model has been accomplished by Miss Etta Carlin, of New York, whose business It is to make the wheels go round in the latest way. An authority on electric clocks, she advises her customers as to. the particular type of clock •which will tone with the furnishings and does not relinquish her care until it is installed and in perfect running order.

A BIRD CHARMER Much has been heard of Miss Beatrice Harrison, who takes her ’cello into her garden at Oxted, England, and with seductive melodies charms the nightingales into song. • Many gramophone enthusiasts have records of this performance, with the liquid fluting of the nightingales breaking in upon the theme. The combined ’cello and birdsong has also been broadcast by wireless. Miss Harrison is a nature lover and she has many pets, among them being two baby alligators that vie with each other for the favoured caress.
