JACK SHARKEY beat Tommy Loughran by a technical knockout in the third round of their fight today. The men's wariness throughout the opening round of the contest, and the tendency to box at a distance, promised a drawn-out fight, but the sharp and decisive manner in which Sharkey disposed of his opponent demonstrated that Loughran has no place among; the heavy-weights of today.
■ Loughran, who renounced the ■world’s light-heavy-weight title to try for the heavy-weight crown, applied to the State Athletic Commission to have This fight decide the championship, hut his request was refused some time ago.
Sharkey weighed-in at 14st. and Loughran at 13st. 41b. la the first round they sparred in mid-ring. They were trying each other out with jabs to the face. Jack hooked both hands to the head, and Loughran got home with an uppercut. The round was even. In the second they sparred at longrange. Their blows were light, and they clinched repeatedly. It was Sharkey's round. The third saw Sharkey swing a left to the head, and he dropped Loughran with a right to the jaw. The final knockout blow was delivered 27 seconds after the beginning of this round, and came unexpectedly. Smashing through Loughran's feeble guard at the opening of the round, Sharkey sent his opponent to the Boor. When Tommy staggered to his feet he did not know where he was. and reeled along the ropes into a neutral corner. Sharkey was ready to deliver the finishing punch, but it was not necessary, the referee stepping between them and declaring Sharkey the winner. Loughran was carried into his corner. and was then ready to continue, but. the fight was over. In the words of one competent ob-
