“NICOLA”
ST. JAMES THIS EVENING Nicola, the world’s greatest magician and illusionist, will commence his Auckland season at the St. James Theatre this evening. Nicola has recently completed a tour of the world in search of new tricks and illusions, and on his visit here he will impersonate some of the famous conjurors he has met and present for the first time some of the Oriental magicians’ mysteries never before performed outside of India. The costumes and paraphernalia in these scenes were obtained by Nicola in the countries named. Nicola will be assisted this evening by his original company of sensational mystifiers, and entertainers, including Thex, “The Shadowgraph King,” and Mr. Herman Holmberg, juggler. For years Nicola has startled the police and scientists throughout the world by escaping from all kinds of handcuffs, shackles and other prison guards. A section of his entertainment at the St. James will deal with these and similar feats, and in addition will give a free public demonstration outside the St. James Theatre on Wednesday next of escaping from a strait-jacket while suspended in mid-air.
