A Soccer Feast
AUCKLAND V. WELLINGTON The Cruisers' Final Clash THE Soccer programme to he staged at Blandford Park tomorrow is easily the tinest that lias been offered for years The challenge match between Wellington and Auckland for the provincial premiership is sure to produce a tense and thrilling struggle, while a curtain-raiser of exceptional interest will be the contest between the sister cruisers Dunedin and Diomede. The Diomede sails for England next week and the parting clash will be a lively and willing tussle.
The final big game of the Soccer season last year was the meeting between the old rivals Wellington and Auckland. when a great struggle between two evenly-matched sides ended in a draw, and history may repeat itself tomorrow. With one exception Auckland is relying on the team which stalled oif the challenge by Wellington earlier in the season, but the Capital City selector has made several changes in the personnel of the Wellington representatives, and the new combination has a meritorious win over CanI terbury to its credit. WELLINGTON CONFIDENT The Wellington team ai'rived by the early express this morning, and the members are quietly confident of being the first provincial eleven to lower Auckland’s colours in the four seasons’ tussles for possession of the handsome F.A. trophy. Compared individually the visiting side may be superior: but combination, cohesion and co-ordina-tion have always made Auckland s team-work the winning factor. While the galaxy of stars engaged in the struggle for the provincial championship may provide more scientific and finished football, they will have nothing on the naval teams in the matter of speed and dash. The last clash between the rival cruisers provided the fastest game of the season at Blandford Park, and the pace was terrific from start to finish. The bout tomorrow between the departing Diomede and the flagship Dunedin is certain to provide a piquant appetiser for the big game, and early arrivals will have no cause to regret the waiting period.
