FIGHT AT TE PUKE
TWO YOUNG MEN FINED (Prom Our Own Correspondent) TE PUKE, Today. Two men, Thomas Dunstcr and Gordon McKenzie, were each fined £8 and costs, in default two months’ imprisonment, in the Te Puke Police Court on Wednesday, for assaulting F*. S. K. Broad at Whakaroa, near Te Puke, recently. Medical ovidenc© was given that Broad had received two deep scalp wounds and a broken rib. which might have been caused by a kick or by a blow from a bottle. None of the wounds could have been caused bv a fall. F. S. K. Broad, senr.. said that he had called on McKenzie, senr., with regard to his vacating a house, as witness wished to occupy it. They had a heated argument. Later, when witncss and his son were at tea a knock came at tho back door. He answered It and found tho two accused standing there. Dunster then struck witness, knocked him to the floor and kicked him. McKenzie followed, and was in tho act of catching hold of witness’s leg when his son rushed from the back room. McKenzie struck witness’s son on the face and a fight ensued in the backyard. There was no reason why accused should strike him. Dunster was the cat’s paw of the others.
