ENCOURAGING YOUTH

CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOUR BANQUET Steady application of the principles of the Christian Endeavour was urged last evening by Mr. T. Clark, president of the New Zealand Christian Endeavour Alumni Association. Mr. Clark spoke at the annual banquet, and said the work he urged would make the movement more approachable from the point of view of young people. The fellowship and the hospitality she had received in New Zealand were mentioned by Miss Jennie Street, the national field secretary assisting in the development of the union in the Dominion. She appealed for a closer association with the younger people. Miss Somerville expressed the appreciation of the members of Miss Street’s work, and the Rev. Lionel B. Fletcher gave it as his view that in Miss Street the movement possessed one of the greatest religious leaders in the world. Mrs. A. E. Freeman, who attended the first anniversary 37 years ago, and Air. John Graham, the “father of the Christian Endeavour in Auckland,” also spoke. Mrs. Freeman was the first, woman president in New Zealand, and Mr. Graham was first president of the Ponsonby branch in 1592. Officers elected were: President, Mr. T. Clark; vice-presidents, the Rev. Lionel Fletcher, the Rev. K. Knowles Kempton, the Rev. W. A. Sinclair, Mr. G. Densem, Mr. R. S. Abel; secretary and treasurer, Mrs. W. Cullen: committee, Mrs. T. Clark, Miss Somerville, Mrs. Graham, the Rev. A. S. Wilson, Mr. S. Barry and Mr. L.
