RECREATION AREA
PROPOSAL AT NORTHCOTE ONEPOTO TIDAL RESERVE At the meeting of the Northcote Borough Council held last evening, the Auckland Harbour Board offered to lease to the council for recreation purposes the area known as the Onepoto Tidal Reserve for a period of 50 years. The offer was subject to special reservations, one of which was that prior to the granting of the lease the council submit a scheme for the development of the area with an estimate of the cost, to be approved of by the board. On the motion of Cr. George it was resolved that the board be thanked for agreeing to lease this tidal area and informed that when a scheme of development is prepared the board will be asked to modify some of the conditions suggested. A special committee was set up to formulate a scheme for development. The application for the vesting of the other tufa crater adjoining St. Peter’s Rural College was declined by the board. The Public Works Department wrote that a subsidy of £lB, being £1 for £1 on the council's donation, and of 50 per cent, of labour at the rate of 14s a day up to £l7, had been approved of for the proposed works in Waimana Avenue for the relief of unemployment in the borough. It was decided, as suggested bs' the No. 2 Licensing Authority, to have a conference between the council and the AVaitemata Transport Company in connection with the proposed alteration in turning the buses at the wharf approach. A proposal submitted for adoption by the licensing authority will be endorsed on the service licence. The borough overseer reported that to cut and burn oft! a fire-break on Little Shoal Bay recreation reserve, which was overgrown with toi-toi grass, to prevent fire spreading into the surrounding bush, would cost lo \s this reserve is vested conjointly with the Birkenhead Council it was decided to suggest that the work be approved. .
