SOCIETY’S NEED OF FUNDS 1 Sympathisers will have an oppori tunity to help tlie funds of the Auckl land branch of the New Zealand } Society for the Protection of Women ' and Children on Friday, when a street J collection wrill be taken in the city and certain of the suburbs. Although the 1 band of workers this year is smaller ■ than in the past, the committee is ■ anticipating a satisfactory’ response to ; tlie appeal. ' The need for increased public sup- | port was stressed at the annual meet- ’ ing. Expenses last year exceeded 5 income, and the credit balance now ; standing to the society’s account is . dwindling fast. The society appeals to those who live in comfortable surroundings to sacrifice a small annual sum to help those less fortunate. 3 Last year the society’s officers dealt with 569 cases, representing 2,803 office .J interviews.
