NEW REGENT
“FASHIONS IN LOVE’’ Charming Adolphe Menjou keeps the audience at the New Regent Theatre in roars of laughter as he unfolds his idea of “Fashions in Love.” The delightful comedy of a philandering celebrity and his understanding wife is probably one of the best vehicles that this sparkling star has had the opportunity of presenting and the performance is further enhanced by the lilting qualities of Menjou’s voice. “Fashions in Love” is Adolphe Menjou's first venture into the realm of talking moving pictures. Picturegoers who have appreciated the rare fun and unusual talent of this star in the past will find him a hundred-fold more entertaining as he talks and sings his fine whimsical love making. The story deals with the troubles of a famous concert pianist, devoted to his wife but intrigued by the adulation of his many women conquests. His wife looks on with an understanding smile during the rapid succession of love affairs until one escapade threatens to wreck another home. Then she steps in and quietly and effectively brings her erring husband back to his own fireside. The short talkie features include bright music by the Harmony Boys, an all-talking comedy, “A Bird in the Hand,” and a sound cartoon, “Mother, Pin a Rose on Me.” The Pathe Audio Review, showing news of all the world, completes the excellent film programme, while selections from Gilbert and Sullivan are played by Mr. Arthur G. Frost on the Wurlitzer.
