UNSKILLED ASSISTANTS EMPLOYED CHEMIST FINED £5 Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. ■‘lt seems to be in conflict with the spirit ot the Act that a drug-store where medical prescriptions are received and are later distributed to patients should be under the control of unskilled men,” said the magistrate, Mr. E. Page, S.M.. in the course o i a judgment delivered today. “In many cases,” he continued, “advice or instructions have to be obtained from a chemist as to the method of applying or taking a medicine or mixture. This cannot be safely given except by qualified men.” The case was one in which W. S. Wallace was charged under section 40 of the Pharmacy Act, 190 S, that, being a registered chemist, he kept under his name an open shop for compounding or dispensing of prescriptions, the said shop not being under his immediate supervision and control or that of his duly enrolled manger. When the case was heard, it was stated that prescriptions were received at his Lambton Quay shop, but were made up at his Willis Street shop. Defendant was fined <£s 3s, security for appeal being fixed at £lO 3 os.
