LISTING J.P’S
REQUEST TO MINISTER DIFFICULTY OF LOCATING THEM A request from the Auckland Justices of the Peace Association that .ists of J.P.’s should be included in the telephone directory was made yesterday afternoon to t the Postmaster General, the Hon. J.B. Donald. A deputation, headed by Mr. S. Donaldson, president of the association, waited oil the Minister. Mr. Donaldson explained that the Auckland public found great difficulty in locating justices of the peace when they were wanted. This difficulty also applied to the lawyers. It was suggested that full lists of all the justices of the peace in Auckland, with their telephone numbers, should be placed in the telephone directory. Messrs. A. J. Stratford and A. Rosser also stated the case for the justices of the peace. Mr. Donald suggested that the list required should be compiled and handed to “Information” in the telephone exchanges, but the deputation did not think this would remove the present difficulty. In reply to the deputation the Minister said that to some degree he was bound by regulation concerning what went into the telephone directory. On his return to Wellington he promised to make inquiries regarding the fulfilment of the request.
