STRICT PROBATION
SEAMAN WITH PILLAGED GOODS LOOT FROM HORORATA “Make the terms pretty hot, so that he’ll know he is on probation,” suggested Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.. when Thomas Joseph Glover appeared at the Police Court this morning for sentence and was admitted to probation for 12 months, /"'i LOVER, a seaman aged 24, was convicted on Saturday on charges of receiving butter and mutton valued at 12s 6d and women’s clothing valued at 10s 6d, the property of the New Zealand Steamship Company. It was stated by Chief-Detective Hammond that the goods had been pillaged from the Hororata and were found when, the police searched accused’s house. “The trouble is that the man has a wife and three children,” said the magistrate this morning. “He has not been attending to them too well and he has been drinking, but it is no use fining liini.” _ A condition of the probation was that Glover took out a prohibition order. It was mentioned that there was no restitution to be made.
