“NUISANCE DENIED”
SMOKE FROM NORTH SHORE DESTRUCTOR COURT ACTION THREATENED Smoke nuisance from the North 1 Shore refuse destructor was not admitted by the Mayor of Takapuna, Mr J. W. Williamson, who presided lasi I evening at a meeting of the management committee of the destructor. A statement that protection would i be sought in court, failing abatement, was made in a complaint received from the Takapuna West Area Ratepayers Association. The letter said the limbing of the destruction of refuse to ! three days a week did not relieve the : position. , Air. Williamson remarked that reports by officials indicated that the position had been exaggerated. 1 The committee agreed that the Takapuna inspector should maintain strict surveillance, and should make ! report each day. The intentions and the interpretations of the agreement between the boroughs of Devonport, Takapuna, and • Northcote, as joint owners of the destructor, were advised by Mr. A. AI Gould, in view of the contention of the Northcote Council that it was not j liable to operating costs until it became a user of the plant or until the • area from which refuse should be ro moved was defined by the Department iof Health. It is proposed to hold a ! conference to bring about » friendly • settlement.
